okay so. my take on Majima/Goromi/the gender queer subtext of his character.

i've met with an opinion that 80's Goromi wouldn't take place because Majima's use of drag is simply comedic and provocative. i do agree that if he wanted to pull off a drag perfomrance or even simply crossdress he could do it without making it look as campy as the Goromi we meet does. however.

i'm sure as hell that there are a lot of interpretations around Majima's sexuality and gender, i personally see him just as a queer person, open to any interpretations BUT the trans aspect is growing on me A LOT. when i say trans i dont mean full ftm/mtf transition as tbh i dont really care (yet. give me some time i'll get to it) if he's an amab or afab im looking more to the gender queer aspect of the character, the man we are given on screen.

Majima has a lot of connections to both feminity and transness. his connections to womanhood being often reflected in the way he has to put on constant act and role to please others or all the times he was forced into submission. Majima learns a lot how to manipulate others handing them the leash but still being the one to lead. it's also something that i think women tend to do - giving men the feeling of power when they're actually the ones to control the situation. he's relationships with girls in Sunshine shows that he often judges the relationship between women and men from the outer perspective, like he doesn't really consider himself in any of the sides (but i guess it also depends on the answers the player chooses). of course there's also the Hannya motive, the embodient of unfiltred female rage he has carved onto his skin. he sympathizes with women a lot more than he does with men and we see that a lot.

possible take on his transness comes from the complete isolation and all the facades he puts on. a huge part of Majima's character is the way he creates his image through his body. i've spoken before about the snakeskin jacket being possible active choice to immedietly let others know he's one wild bastard but we also know that the jacket is a symbol of the mad dog, the perfectly created dehumanising persona. he let's other see what he wants them to see, he doesn't really expresses himself. we see in PYIH that he's not fond of the unnecessarily scary image and "manly man" others take him for. he's funky, he's both rough and gentle, he's queer. in this very game we can see how his body language shifted, how the way he walks changed when he's put out of that hyper manly society. goro's steps are less wide, he sways a bit, his entire walk, whole movement is more smooth.

so like. we see that it is somewhere inside of him and only when he doesn't remember he's been hiding it it actually shows. therefore what if Goromi is actually mockery of his own feelings? what if he takes drag as another way to make himself invalid, unserious and wry?

don't want to sound stereotypical but feminity is often associeted with compassion and emotions, the very things majima's facade seems to completely block out of the way. he's a man of contrast and duality, thats why i think the she side of Majima's character is actually all the repressed emotions. it's as when he's a man of Tojo he's not allowed to feel. this might be another thing leading us to why Kiryu has such a strong hold on him. cause Kazuma is affectionate, he's a caring parental figure AND the empitome of masculanity. Majima didn't have a chance to become like that probably because of the events in 1985. they peeled it off him. the hole created someone he didn't know, turned him into someone he was never supposed to be.

there goes the shaved look in PYIH being called cabaret manager make up implying there's more to it than simple lack of facial hair. something. something about fresh out of torture Majima using make up, using gender expression as the only connection to any of the feelings and emotions he had pre-hole. and something about Majima leaving it all behind after y0, after the events starting his entire negative development and mad dog persona. then again, kiwami Goromi as mockery of his trauma and dehumanisation of his true self. then again im going crazy because of him. the contrast he puts to Kiryu, the way he wants to show Kazuma this somewhat humiliating to masculanity creation that Goromi is and Kazzy being just... wow Majima i didn't know you had that in you. Kiryu is chill, he doesn't judge, he doesn't think it makes him any less of who he is. and going back to what i said at the beggining, i think that Majima could turn into the most gorgeous woman and would feel comfortable with that BUT. kiwami is imo the peak of his self destructive behavior. and i think Goromi could be read in that aspect.

i guess what i'm trying to say is i see his gender queerness as something that's very personal to him, as a bridge to all the repressed stuff he doesn't let anyone see. in the aspects of sexuality he's still very queer coded even as the mad dog but if it goes for his gender and feminine side i truly belive it touches something much more emotional and intimate.

i feel like maybe he was the reason on why kafmo has abtracted. We dont know his exact relansionship with kaufmo yet in the pilot he mostly did came in to check kaufmo and lied to rest who never saw him abtract by saying that he was okay. I feel like jax and kaufmo share a friend relanship but maybe not infront of the others it's when their alone. Kaufmo must have been the only one who jax feel comfortable to talk to the most. I do think that jax did something maybe he talked abour the exit and team up with him but kaufmo went there without him ( my first theory ).... But the thing i belive is JAX was talking harsh about him to the rest not that harsh but i feel like jax would be the kind of people to be nice to you when no ones around and then throw you when everbodys there so.. maybe kaufmo got tired of that and felt sad a bit on how he treat. In kaufmo case he seem to give up and have hate maybe the most at jax which is why he ran fast and left rags and pomni. Jax's Guilt?

We've all seen this image by now, right? It looks goofy, but...I might be taking it to seriously...but what if it's supposed to represent Jax's guilt? That looks a lot like Kaufmo's bowling ball. And what did Jax not attend? Kaufmo's funeral.

We saw in episode 2 that Jax was at least somewhat upset that Kaufmo abstracted based on this screenshot:

We've also seen him get more development in episode 4 with him being worn down to the point of being somewhat friendly with Pomni. He's a bully, but what if he's feeling guilt for it? And the loss of Kaufmo is what really put it over the edge? The bowling ball is a real representation of him being crushed by his own guilt.

Holy shit OK you might be on something OK so a big thing I’m thinking about is how Jame didnt become CEO until Helena was 10 or 11 years old. Pip then Leonora were CEOs before then which is interesting. And then we definitely know at this point in time, that Helena is afraid of her father we see that in her interactions with him, we see that and we know that there were certain things of her childhood that like Helena of gave Jame trouble on if we take Helena‘s word for it at the gala like she didn’t like saying the nine principles, but then we also have the fact that Jame brought home the severance chip to her and she said it’s so pretty daddy. Everybody in the world should have one which is like an admiration seemingly. I’m also thinking of how Helena lives with her father which does not seem normal for Lumon. Every other Lumon person lives alone like Miss Huang had her bed moved out of her parents house to another country. She’s like 15 and Cobel has whats seemingly her childhood bed and she lives by herself as well. Her mother is dead, but her mom died when she was at school and her aunt lives back in Salt Lick (I think that’s what it was called) so they live by themselves, but Helena does not and so I kind of have this idea that maybe Helena is like a fuck up like what if she did try when she was younger like she did try to help Lumon and she tried incorrectly and just kind of kept fucking shit up and then when they were trying to fix that and make it so that she wasn’t wouldn’t fuck shit up anymore, they treated her so terribly and abused her in such a horrific manner that they created her rebellion essentially. Because maybe because like she was on board at first and she was really excited and she really wanted to help and get her father’s approval. Like this could still have happened at like a young age or like preteen and that’s still how we could get rebellious child Helena. And that’s also why she doesn’t live by herself and why they don’t really give her big tasks to do because when she was younger, she just kind of fucked them up and then maybe she started being rebellious because of that bjt she was rebellious in the wrong way maybe. Like maybe she starting messing stuff up on purpose after a while. Because we know that she does have a rebellious spirit because of Helly. But Helly started rebellious because of Helena’s already existing inner rebelllion. She just starts out that way. And maybe they had Helena hide her rebellion because she was STILL being rebellious incorrectly somehow so they tried to fix it again but instead made her hide her rebellion dee inside. I’m thinking about Natalie and how when Helly switched over to Helena. Natalie immediately noticed something was off, and her first question was not like. Are you OK? What’s going on? Her first question was essentially asking was saying how many of those (glasses of champagne) have you had she was asking if she was drunk so I’m wondering Did Helena have a drinking problem in the past? Did she show up to certain events drunk as basically a way to cope?Is that another way she fucked up? I also don’t think Helena has completely lost her rebellion, it’s still there she just has to be subtle about it now. Though it’s gotten less subtle with Helly rubbing off on her. My examples of possible subtle Helena rebellion are as follows

1. Arm rash. She was wearing a sleeveless dress where you could see her arms. I wonder if she chose that on purpose because she knew some people might remember her arms and that there was no rash

2. Every time Helena has spout Lumon bullshit she grimaces slightly (gets more obvious as time goes on)

3. The egg scene when she puts down her fork after her father essentially scolds her cause the eggs aren’t raw. She smiles as he walks away.

4. Her talking back and saying she’s not going back down feels like a big one and seems to surprise Natalie.

5. Laughing at the Kier story obviously. Though I dont know if that was on purpose rebellion to me it seemed like she actually did try to keep her laughter in but she couldn’t so I think the ridiculousness of her family’s lore more hit her at that moment and she decided to just let it out cause she wasn’t Helena at that moment

the empty frame in bobbys castle tower is a metaphor for jaiden and roiers family. they shared a house a bed items son, roier showed her his basement, melissa, his betrayal scars, and his home that was meant to be a community house. and jaiden couldnt fully believe she wasnt taking too much when it was her house! it was her base too! she moved out of the home she was building to move in with roier but she still felt like an intruder to her own home! she saw it as a temporary home for until she could move out and build her own base. but she still cared for and accepted every part of roier. and roier loved jaiden back too! when they died in that airship, he cleared out the dungeon and gave jaiden armor and spirit orbs and when jaiden accepted his anger and blame it just fizzled out. jaiden understands. so then roier left a empty frame at the bottom of the tower for jaiden to fill whenever she came back and they laughed and joked while tucking bobby in and jaiden said i bet you a hundred million dollars we'll see bobby tomorrow and roier said are you sure and it was a joke and then tomorrow came and jaiden was an hour too late. and then roier joked and laughed and when jaiden came and he had to break the news he couldn't anymore. because with jaiden roier can let down the jokes and with roier jaiden can be sure he has her back and support and when jaiden fell off the edge roier jumped down to join her before she could even say anything and they had pvp lessons together and a heart to heart as the sun rised and in the end the community house lays abandoned and bobby fields is filled with copies of the best day they had together and the attic is never looked at again and the top floor of bobbys tower isnt either.
